A Day of Excitement and Community Spirit: Attending the Groundbreaking Ceremony for Food City!

Food City to invest $90 million to “build six new stores and create over 1,300 jobs in Huntsville over the next five years.

As a resident of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, I recently had the incredible opportunity to witness the groundbreaking ceremony for the highly anticipated Food City grocery store, soon to grace Taylor Road. This monumental occasion brought together the local community and showcased the remarkable features that make Food City a truly exceptional establishment. From its innovative points system and impressive size to the delightful addition of Starbucks and a pizza oven, not to mention its commitment to fresh, organic meat and vibrant floral arrangements, Food City truly embodies excellence in every aspect. Join me as I recount my unforgettable experience into what makes this store a true gem in our town.

First I had the memorable experience to meet the CEO of Food City, Steve Smith. He shared how his love of Food City developed at a young age as he worked with his father, a Naval Academy graduate who came back to his small town without a job after the Korean War and opened a Piggly Wiggly. He had the desire to bring a modern store to his community. It's safe to say that serving people is in Smith's DNA. His father's story was very touching.

I soon found myself remembering the days when I would walk to the Food City behind my childhood in home Exmore, Va to pick up groceries for my father. I will always cherish these fond memories! For me it's hard to look at a grocery store as just a place to purchase food. I consider it more of a community staple and a source for nutrients and dinner table memories with the people I love most. Fast forward 20+ years and grocery shopping has become one of my favorite things to do! And I put great importance in where I shop for groceries. At the top of my list is a desire to find a variety of vegan options, fresh quality meat, and organic products at a reasonable price. If this sounds like you, you are in luck because Food City has that to offer and so much more!

A Remarkable Points System

One of the standout features of Food City is its unique and rewarding points system with their ValuCard. As an avid shopper, I was thrilled to discover that every purchase earns points that can be redeemed for exciting rewards. Whether it's automatic discounts on groceries, digital coupons, or even their sweepstakes, Food City's points system ensures that loyal customers are consistently appreciated and rewarded for their patronage.

Third Largest in the Country

It was truly awe-inspiring to learn that the Food City store in Owens Cross Roads will be the third-largest in the entire country!. The sheer scale of the establishment promises an unparalleled shopping experience for residents and visitors alike. From the vast selection of products to the spacious layout, this Food City store is set to redefine the grocery shopping landscape in our community.

Food City will be located on Taylor Lane with an easy to access entrance on HWY 431.

Starbucks: A Perfect Blend

As a proud former Starbucks employee, I couldn't contain my excitement when I discovered that this Food City store would house a Starbucks. Imagine the convenience of enjoying a freshly brewed cup of your favorite coffee while you shop for groceries. With Starbucks' irresistible aromas wafting through the air, customers will have the opportunity to indulge in a moment of relaxation (I see many coconut milk matcha latte's in my future!). Oh, and you can use their app now to order in advance. So, no more waiting in line! Just order, grab, and go!

A Pizza Oven for Savory Delights

Food City's commitment to provide diverse culinary experiences is truly commendable. Among the many delightful features, the addition of a pizza oven within the store caught my attention. Imagine being able to indulge in delicious, freshly baked pizzas, customized to your liking, right inside your local grocery store. It's an innovative addition that is sure to delight pizza enthusiasts and satisfy cravings on the go. Rumor has it that their Philly cheesesteaks are a game changer!

Fresh Organic Meat and a Dedicated Butcher

For health-conscious shoppers like myself, Food City's commitment to offering fresh organic meat is another game-changer! The store boasts a dedicated butcher counter where customers can find a wide variety of high-quality, locally sourced meats. With an emphasis on sustainability and transparency, Food City ensures that shoppers can make conscious choices while enjoying the finest cuts available.

Floral Bliss: Four Florists, Seven Days a Week

I am excited to witness the vibrant floral arrangements that will adorne every corner. Food City's commitment to beauty and aesthetics extends beyond the produce section. With four talented florists available seven days a week, customers will find stunning bouquets, centerpieces, or even floral gifts to brighten their homes or surprise loved ones. It's a testament to Food City's dedication to enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Giving Back to Schools and Community

One of the most heartwarming aspects of Food City is its dedication to giving back to local schools and the community. Through various initiatives and partnerships, Food City has consistently shown its commitment to supporting education and fostering a sense of togetherness. By engaging in programs that provide resources and funding to schools, Food City embodies the spirit of a true community partner.

An Employee-Owned Business

Lastly, but certainly not least, it's worth highlighting that Food City is an employee-owned business. This unique approach fosters a sense of pride and ownership among the staff, leading to exceptional service and a welcoming atmosphere. It's clear that every member of the Food City team is invested in providing the best experience for their customers, which further contributes to the overall appeal of this extraordinary store.

Attending the groundbreaking ceremony for Food City's new store in Owens Cross Roads was an absolute delight. From its groundbreaking points system to its status as the third-largest store in the country, Food City is set to redefine the grocery shopping experience in our town. With the inclusion of Starbucks, a pizza oven, fresh organic meat, talented florists, and a strong commitment to community involvement, Food City embodies excellence and innovation at every turn. As an employee-owned business, Food City offers a warm and welcoming environment where customers can feel valued and appreciated. I am eagerly awaiting the grand opening and the opportunity to explore all that Food City has to offer.
