As a resident of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, I recently had the incredible opportunity to witness the groundbreaking ceremony for the highly anticipated Food City grocery store, soon to grace Taylor Road. This monumental occasion brought together the local community and showcased the remarkable features that make Food City a truly exceptional establishment. From its innovative points system and impressive size to the delightful addition of Starbucks and a pizza oven, not to mention its commitment to fresh, organic meat and vibrant floral arrangements, Food City truly embodies excellence in every aspect. Join me as I recount my unforgettable experience into what makes this store a true gem in our town.
First I had the memorable experience to meet the CEO of Food City, Steve Smith. He shared how his love of Food City developed at a young age as he worked with his father, a Naval Academy graduate who came back to his small town without a job after the Korean War and opened a Piggly Wiggly. He had the desire to bring a modern store to his community. It's safe to say that serving people is in Smith's DNA. His father's story was very touching.
I soon found myself remembering the days when I would walk to the Food City behind my childhood in home Exmore, Va to pick up groceries for my father. I will always cherish these fond memories! For me it's hard to look at a grocery store as just a place to purchase food. I consider it more of a community staple and a source for nutrients and dinner table memories with the people I love most. Fast forward 20+ years and grocery shopping has become one of my favorite things to do! And I put great importance in where I shop for groceries. At the top of my list is a desire to find a variety of vegan options, fresh quality meat, and organic products at a reasonable price. If this sounds like you, you are in luck because Food City has that to offer and so much more!
